"Risks Associated With Pressurised Hydraulic Hoses"

By Barry Catanach

Pressurised hydraulic systems have the potential for safety risks. A hydraulic hose failure can result in fluids escaping under high pressure. Workers or bystanders could be exposed to this hazard.

The common injuries from high pressure hoses are:

  • high velocity fluid injections
  • burns from exposure to fluids
  • bodily injury by whipping hoses - lacerations, etc.

A pinhole leak poses an extremely unsafe and dangerous situation. The pressurised fluid will travel at a very high velocity in the form of a mist or fluid stream. This is hard to detect by the naked eye. The high velocity stream can pierce the human skin.
